Temperature by material

The temperature limit follows the material grade, so the range above spans every grade offered rather than any one build. Confirmed at quotation.

Alloy Steel
-29°C to 150°C
Stainless Steel
-196°C to 150°C (cryogenic service requires an extended bonnet and a BS 6364 type test)

Operating media

Typical applications

  • LNG handling
  • LPG handling
  • Low-temperature pipeline service
  • Long-distance oil and gas pipelines

Actuation options

Manual leverPneumatic single-actingElectric 230V AC

Features

  • Top-entry design allows online disassembly and maintenance without removing valve from pipeline
  • Valve body cast or forged as a single unit, ensuring integrity of pressure-bearing parts
  • Extended bonnet design with controlled stem-to-neck clearance to reduce cold flow migration and prevent packing icing
  • Outer annular long-neck groove increases cooling dissipation area
  • Adjustable spring-preloaded seat pushes seat against ball under spring and medium pressure, maintaining seal at low temperature and low pressure
  • PCTFE seat sealing material retains elasticity under ultra-low temperature conditions (on selected products)
  • Primary stem seal formed by lip-type sealing ring
  • Secondary stem seal formed by compressed stem packing
  • Self-centring pressure cover and pressure sleeve design on selected products to prevent imbalance from uneven loading

Description

A top-entry floating ball valve designed for ultra-low temperature service, used to connect or isolate cryogenic media. The valve body is cast or forged as a single unit with an extended bonnet design to minimise cold flow and prevent packing icing. Features a spring-preloaded adjustable seat and dual-stage stem sealing suitable for cryogenic conditions down to -196°C.

Selection notes

This cryogenic ball valve is a floating ball valve and top entry ball valve pattern.

Sizes run DN15 to DN600, in Class 150, Class 300, Class 600, Class 900, Class 1500, Class 2500.

The body is offered in Stainless Steel and Alloy Steel, so the grade can be matched to the service rather than the other way round.

Seat and trim options are PCTFE. The seat, not the body, usually sets the temperature and medium limit, so confirm it against the service before ordering.

Stated service media include lng, lpg, natural gas, oil and gas.

It is catalogued for Oil & Gas.

Working temperature is -196°C to 150°C, by material.

Supplier remarks

  • Some products use imported PCTFE and other materials for the valve seat sealing surface
  • Some products adopt a self-centring design for the pressure cover and pressure sleeve
  • Operator options include manual, pneumatic, electric, etc.

Cryogenic Valves configurations

View full Cryogenic Valves system →
This product is part of the Cryogenic Valves modular system. All configurations share the same hydraulically operated body: the control function is set by the pilot valve(s) attached. An existing Cryogenic Valves body in the field can be reconfigured for a different duty simply by swapping the pilot, without replacing the body.
